Naturally clean, healthy, glowing skin's every eco beauty seeker's desire -- but the exploding eco-friendly beauty product market's got quite a few green-but-not-effective duds in it. And since each facial product really takes at least a month to show what it can do, finding a green and effective beauty product that works can be an excruciatingly long-term endeavor.

I'm just going to come right out and say that I have been lusting after the Clarisonic Skin Care Brush for, uh, over a year now? Maybe more? I never buy it, because the cost is somewhat prohibitive, and while I feel it would be life-changing (face-changing?), I also feel it is important to continue feeding my children regularly, and ensure that we enjoy things such as electricity and heat.

When Baby's Skin Isn't Baby Soft

You've heard the expression "soft as a baby's skin," right? Well, I hate that expression. Before I had children, I expected that my babies would have flawless skin. And, like most mothers, I was surprised when none of my children were born with naturally soft skin.

Is Botox Out in 2010?

A new year and a new decade always bring a contagious feeling of hope and optimism. This year, I've hitched my hopes on a new trend in beauty: According to Beatrice Aidin of the Financial Times, 2010 will be the year where the Botox craze will finally end.

This time of year can do a number on your skin; the combination of cold weather outdoors and warm air indoors leaves your hands and face and limbs feeling dry and, well, sad. Take five minutes to exfoliate and uncover a whole new you.Exfoliating is a simple way to refresh tired winter skin; sloughing off the dead, dry top layer (eew) gives you a glow that no makeup can match. But you don't need a fancy cream or scrub to bring out the best in your skin -- a washcloth will do just fine.

I am an idiot. For almost five months now, I have been worrying that any national health plan that was passed by Congress would not cover abortion services. It turns out that I have been wringing my hands over the exact wrong thing. What really, really, really scares American women - including the president of NOW, Terry O'Neil - are proposals levy an "almost 5%" tax on critical women's health services: breast augmentations, facelifts, tummy tucks and other procedures. Gasp!!!!

It all started about a month ago when my friend Holly mentioned that she purchased a Clarisonic Mia facial brush of magic. And then a renewed lust for beauty products spiraled from there and now there are lists upon lists of potions and lotions that I'd like to try.

Five DIY Holiday Beauty Gifts

My mom has recently gotten really into DIY beauty products. She's raiding the kitchen for everything from bananas, avocados and honey for hair conditioner to my grandmother's organic rose bush for homemade rose water. And her hair and skin actually look really, really good lately. But most people have trouble wrapping their heads around putting, well, food on the top of their head. But there are a lot of great homemade beauty products that can be prettily packaged and make wonderful gifts. Much better than, say, half an avocado, a couple of egg yolks and a plastic shower cap.

Okay, so while I don't actually celebrate Christmas, this time of year is among my favorites. And yes, I can already talk about Christmas since ALL OF THE STORES STARTED GETTING READY FOR IT THE DAY AFTER HALLOWEEN.Ahem.I love it all:  the lights, the music, and the general sense of good cheer that pervades my ordinarily gruff city of Manhattan, but I'll let you in on a little secret: My very favorite aspect of this time of year? The incredible beauty bargains to be had.
